The meeting assumed importance with party’s high command deputing its national vice-president and in-charge J&K affairs Avinash Rai Khanna and National General Secretary Ram Madhav, to be a part of it.

Both reached the winter capital on Saturday, and led the meeting which began in the afternoon and continued till evening.
A party source aware of the development said the meeting was specifically called in to “reiterate BJP’s stand on the Article 35-A and J&K special position.”
Apart from Madhav and Avinash, those who attended the meeting included Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, BJP state president Sat Sharma, general secretaries Pawan Khajuria, Ashok Koul, and Narinder Singh, MoS PMO Jitendra Singh, MP Jugal Kishore, and MP Shamsher Singh Manhas.
State BJP’s spokesperson, Arun Kumar Gupta told The Kashmir Monitor that the meeting was called in to majorly discuss Article 35A apart from other party issues.
He, however, refused to divulge any more details on the outcome of the meeting.
The source, however, said that Madhav and Avinash were specifically deputed to “reassure the state BJP leaders of the party’s take on Article 35A in the wake of CM Mehbooba Mufti’s meeting with the Prime Minister.”
“Some of the state BJP leaders who were vocal in their stand against Article 35-A and its abrogation were told not to give any statements in public. They were, however, assured that the party stood by its stand on the issue,” the source said.
